Founder and Chairman Robert C. Kettler, a third-generation builder, parlayed a small construction business into a multi-million dollar development firm. His visionary leadership has resulted in planned communities and commercial spaces that are recognized for quality design, mix of uses and extensive amenities.

Richard Hausler shares Kettler's philosophies. A top land use attorney, Hausler joined KSI as president in 1986 and has been instrumental in developing the company's impressive portfolio of both luxury high-rise apartment homes and affordable housing.

Known originally for traditional planned community concepts, KSI has shifted its focus to innovative mixed-use designs that maximize limited land in urban areas. These "vertical planned communities" bring people closer to their environment by utilizing premium sites close to transit and existing infrastructure. They create economic and aesthetic value for investors, residents, and neighbors and shape patterns of growth for the 21st century. Today, KSI owns and manages a majority interest in 10,000 Washington-area apartments and delivers approximately 2,000 new rentals and condominiums each year.

KSI continues to bring the region's largest planned communities to market. Current developments include: Harbor Station, Potomac Club, Midtown Reston Town Center, Metropolitan Park, Midtown Alexandria Station, Midtown Bethesda North, West Village of Shirlington, and Midtown Largo Station.

In all, KSI has developed five million square feet of commercial space and over 50,000 homes, as well as public projects such as parks, schools, golf courses, and transportation improvements. KSI also owns and manages some of the area's largest and most significant properties from affordable housing to the Metropolitan brand communities, which are synonymous with ultra-luxury. Along the way, KSI has partnered with world-renowned architects and won hundreds of awards for housing design, land planning, and urban design. Still, our greatest satisfaction comes from enriching the communities of which we are a part.
